Exploring Engineering

Engineers solve problems and work on emerging challenges in a wide range of areas important to improving quality of life; areas like sustainable energy, access to clean water, and improved communications and health care technologies. Kosky et al's Exploring Engineering explores the world of engineering by introducing the reader to what engineer's do, the fundamental principles that form the basis of their work, and how they apply that knowledge within a structured design process.

Advances in Manufacturing

This book reports on cutting-edge research and technologies in the field of advanced manufacturing and materials, with a special emphasis on unconventional machining process, rapid prototyping and biomaterials. Based on the International Conference on Manufacturing Engineering and Materials (ICMEM 2018), held in Nový Smokovec, Slovakia on 18–22 June 2018, it covers advances in various disciplines, which are expected to increase the industry’s competitiveness with regard to sustainable development and preservation of the environment and natural resources.

Systems engineering

This book discusses the concepts, tools and applications of systems engineering. Chapter One presents the implementation of automated measuring system for measuring chromatic dispersion (CD). Chapter Two discusses the results regarding the optimization of phase based EOM (electro optical modulator) as the most important component in CD measurement setup, then investigates the results of CD measurement characterizations based on different lengths of fiber, different wavelengths and different RF frequencies.

Marine engineering

On the modelling of coupled hydro-mechanical behaviour of interfaces for offshore foundations / B. Cerfontaine and F. Collin -- Innovative redundant and reconfigurable propulsion systems : fast prototyping through simplified simulation and design procedures / Benedetto Allotta, Luca Pugi, Marco Pagliai and Libero Paolucci -- Technologies to improve ship efficiency and reduce harmful emissions / Salma Sherbaz, Wenyang Duan and Jawad Khan.
