José Fernández López was a visionary who transformed Spanish industry with his audacity and innovative spirit. Unafraid of taking risks, he went it alone and invested in two bankrupt industrial slaughterhouses during the Republic. Together with his brothers, he founded the chemical laboratory Zeltia in the early postwar period and gave shelter to scientists who had been persecuted during the dictatorship. He created the first multinational special rail transport company, Transfesa, and patented a track switching system to connect Spain to the European continent by rail through the Pyrenees. He revolutionized fishing with Pescanova's fleet of freezer ships and promoted industrial development with strategic projects such as titanium and lithium extraction. His legacy goes beyond business: his role as a cultural patron and his commitment to Galicia made a difference in the history of the country.
